We docked in Puerto Vallerta - another Mexican tourist trap - but did not actually spend any time there. Instead we took a samll boat to LAS CALETAS, the former private hideaway of director John Huston.

ARCH - On the way to Las Caletas

Las Caletas is a small private resort (limited water!). It used to be the private playground of Hollywood's "A" list back in the 50's and 60's when it belonged to director John Huston. Nick swears that the place is still mined with empy booze bottles. Today it is owned by a tour company and works very well for a full day trip from a cruise ship. It takes about an hour to get there, then you can relax on the beach, snorkel, cajak, get a massage, go for a nature walk (good narration) Food and drink are also laid on and are very good. The gringos learn how to make guacamole and a few other Mexican dishes and everyone can eat a very good Paella. The boat ride back is made more entertaining by the antics of the crew who channels Queen and Abba and gives a quite funny "concert" (see the you tube video).

Since Puerto Vallerta is just another tourist ghetto, this is a great alternative to being taken from bar to bar in Puerto Vallerta itself
